UPDATED DATA

Dear School Bus Riders:

NOTICE:  THE ATTACHED SCHEDULES are for 2007-2008

Bus Transportation began on MONDAY AUGUST 27, 2007

These sheets reflect changes as of the date above.

The bus routes for this year started in the Annapolis/Bowie, Dunkirk/Upper Marlboro, Waldorf/Ft. Washington and Montgomery County areas.

As of this date the Montgomery County Route is discontinued due to an insufficient number of riders.  The Metro Pick-up and Drop-off will still take place

Schedules/pick-up locations have been identified and we tried to accommodate all of the students who completed the attached form and returned it to the DeMatha HS Business Office with the required deposit.

The route costs are:

  • Annapolis $1,800 (deposit $100)
  • Dunkirk $1,800 (deposit $100)
  • Montgomery Cty $1,800 (deposit $100) (Discontinued)
  • Waldorf/Ft Washington $1900 (deposit $100)

Fuel costs continue to escalate and we were forced to keep pace with the new fuel costs therefore, our basic fee increases reflect those increases.   We do not anticipate further adjustments however if fuel prices do not stabilize soon it may be necessary to assess an additional fuel surcharge.

DeMatha Transportation also provides limited transportation to Elizabeth Seton High School. Seton HS riders help DeMatha maintain affordable transportation costs for both schools.

Bus transportation costs will NOT be billed with the FACTS payment plan; costs will be billed separately for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters.  Payments for the bus must be made prior to the beginning of each quarter.  The school cannot and will not prorate the cost for one-way riders or missed rides.

Bus start times are established with sufficient time for the bus to arrive at school at least 10 to 15 minutes prior to the start of classes, and departure is 20 minutes after the last bell.  Each bus driver will be able to notify the schools if a traffic problem delays the bus arrival.  The drivers will have an attendance roster.

On occasion students may choose not to return on the bus in the afternoon due to after-school activities. Students are encouraged to keep the bus driver informed of their intentions so they do not cause unnecessary delays. Please be prompt and considerate of the other bus riders.

Bus services includes a morning trip and a return trip on mid-term and final exam dates.  The DeMatha School Calendar is used for bus schedules and DeMatha HS will decide the late starts and early dismissals.  Routing information will be determined after the sign-up period has con clued and it will be distributed to everyone upon return of the initial deposit form. We prefer contacts be made by e-mail as a quick and easy method to reach everyone in a very short period of time.  Transportation information is also available on the DeMatha.Org website, look for links to transportation.

In general, all routes and pick-up points are being established to accommodate those students who respond by the above date.  Pickup locations are typically at centralized points to facilitate a quick and safe collection of students without delaying traffic.  Afternoon drop offs will also be worked out for quick and safe locations, generally in the same vicinity as the morning pickups.  We cannot provide “door to door” service due to timing and traffic patterns especially during morning rush hour periods.  In the past centrally located pick-up and drop-off points have worked out very well.

Typical route alignments are listed below. The goal is to have safe locations for the school bus to load and unload, and to use areas where shelter from bad weather is available.

Annapolis/Bowie Route $1,800 Deposit $100

Starts at Annapolis Harbor Center area of Annapolis with stops at/near Route 424/50, at Harbour Way at Route 301, at/near Route 450/3, at/near Route 450/197, at/near Route 450/193 and then on to the school.

Bus Transportation Routes and Schedules

& General Information

August 30, 2007

Each rider should plan to arrive at their designated pick-up point at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time in case traffic is lighter than usual.

Bus routes utilize centralized and safe locations for morning pick-ups’ and centralized drop-off points for afternoon return trips.

Buses will depart the school 20 minutes after the last bell and they will operate on the DeMatha Catholic High School Calendar and Schedule of Classes. (DeMatha School Calendar is available on the DeMatha.org web site and is updated with bulletins from the school.)

Bus start times have been established with sufficient time for the bus to arrive at school at least 10 to 15 minutes prior to the start of classes, and they will depart 20 minutes after the last bell.  Each bus driver is equipped with communication devices and the school attendance office will be notified if a traffic problem will delay the bus arrival.  If the Bus is late, students should get an “excused late pass” from the Attendance Office prior to entering their Homeroom.

Each driver has a roster and attendance will be taken in the morning and afternoon.  On occasion students may choose not to return on the bus in the afternoon due to after-school activities. Students are encouraged to keep the bus driver informed of their intentions so they do not cause un-necessary delays in the morning or the afternoon. Please be prompt and considerate of the other bus riders.

Bus Transportation is provided by DeMatha Catholic High School through a Contract with a private vendor and is an extension of the DeMatha (and Seton) school day.  Each of the School’s have established Code(s) of Conduct and the “Code”extends to the School Bus.  Proper behavior begins at the start of the route and continues until departure.  Infractions of School Policy(s) will be reported to the school and may result in disciplinary action by the school.  The School Bus Driver’s have a dual responsibility, 1) to operate the Bus in a safe manner, and 2) to report infractions to the school.  Please respect them as you would school faculty. If a student is disciplined for an infraction the parents shall be responsible for payment of all fees for transportation services and no refund will be given.  Thank you for your cooperation.

The cost for Bus Transportation is shown on page one and requires a deposit of $100 with quarterly balances payable at the beginning of each quarter (a separate transporation bill will be sent by the school). Transportation costs are not included in the FACT’s payment plan.

If you have not signed up and sent in a deposit there is still time to register, forms are available at http://www.dematha.org/
